One glance at his captain, one yearning look, the crewman could not hold;
This horse of steel would never lie, he had been always told.
Gritty guy, the captain was, yet sweaty was his face;
The horse of steel was sinking down in all its conquered grace.
The plane’s ripping, he cried out loud, his voice could not escape,
The brine had reached almost his head and nothing was in shape.
The foundering horse shuddered a bit as an omen of their fate;
Anguish swept across the board as the captain saw his mate.
And soon they would be nowhere seen, all engulfed by the waves;
The silent husks would wander ‘round inside the deeper caves.
He saw their faces in his mind, his love, his son was near;
His smile, his touch, his voice so clear, yet nothing he could hear.
His wife, her eyes, her gentle grace, brought him a nebulous pain;
One last time, if he could meet, he cried but all in vain.
But now the waters rose too quick, the bygones had been gone;
Their laughter though echoed through his head, the sting had only grown.
One last prayer, the captain sent to his love- his final plea:
The plane had struck the deepest blues, the abyss of the sea.
As darkness fell across his eyes, he gave up on his hold;
The Captain and his crewmen lay to be frozen in the cold.
O Men of the lands, O dear folks, if you ever feel the sea,
Do hear the winds, my unsung words, and remember it was me.
The sea has claimed my final breaths but my love would never fade,
It lingers in the endless waves, where memories are made.
